Who is it for?
The AX1800 is aimed at households using smart TVs, streaming sticks, phones, laptops and consoles on a conventional home internet connection. If your current router has weak Wi-Fi or struggles when several devices are active, a newer Wi-Fi 6 router can be a worthwhile part of a network refresh.
Streaming performance: what a router can and cannot do
A router affects the connection between your devices and the internet gateway. Better Wi-Fi can reduce local congestion and weak-signal problems, but it cannot fix a slow ISP connection, an overloaded streaming service or a low-quality source stream.
For a stationary television or streaming box, Ethernet remains worth considering when it is practical. For wireless devices, router placement is often as important as the router itself: keep it reasonably central, elevated and away from major obstructions.
AX1800 vs AXE5400
The biggest strategic difference in our lineup is that the AXE5400 moves into Wi-Fi 6E territory and is aimed at a busier, higher-spec network. If you do not own 6 GHz-compatible devices and do not need the additional networking features, the AX1800 may make more sense.
